In zijn wat kabbelende, maar niettemin charmante, op Super8 gedraaide debuutfilm Io Sono un Autarchico (I Am Self Sufficient) schrikt Nanni Moretti de ochtend nadat zijn vriendin hem heeft verlaten wakker, denkt even na, en debiteert:
In the cinema, the actors are the middle class; the image is the proletariat; the soundtrack is the petty bourgeoisie, forever fluctuating between one and the other. The image, as proletariat, has to seize the power in the film, after a long struggle.
